William Ronald (Ron) Burton
Ron Burton passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2014, in his beloved back yard in Point of Rocks, Maryland of a sudden heart attack. A celebration of Ron’s life will be held on Friday, November 14th at 2:00 p.m. at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel in Leesburg, Virginia followed by a reception at the home of his daughter, Shelly Burton Rebraca, and son-in-law Ross Rebraca, in Leesburg Virginia.
Ron was born on March 11, 1947 in Greenville TX, to the parents of W. Amon Burton, Sr. and Ruby Nell (Lindsey) Burton. He was raised in Royse City, Texas until the age of eight when he, his brother and mother moved to Rockwall, Texas. He graduated in 1965 from Rockwall High School and was a member of the schools’ State 2A Football Championship team. He received his bachelor’s degree in 1969 from East Texas State University and went on to teach English and history in several school districts in Texas. On November 25, 1966, Ron married Linda Louise Dudley after a friendship and courting that began in the third grade. Their daughter, Shelly Rene, was born in 1969.
In 1976, Ron and his family relocated to Austin, Texas by way of Missoula, Montana after an 8-week adventure to see the American West. Ron’s diverse talents allowed him to start over professionally in auto mechanics because he was always amazing with tools, but after a few years his interests turned to building homes and by 1985 he started his own custom home building firm. The real estate industry in Texas was not forgiving in the late ‘80s and while the firm did not survive, Ron’s passion for the construction and real estate industry was born and he spent the next 30 years fervently supporting it through various roles.
Ron and Linda relocated to the Washington DC area in 1990 where he continued his work through advocacy, federal legislation and regulatory programs, and the development of building codes and standards for both residential and commercial buildings. Ron served for over 10 years as the Sr. Staff Vice President Construction Codes and Standards for the National Association of Home Buildings (NAHB). He then served as Vice President of Codes, Standards and Regulatory Affairs for the Building Owners & Managers Association International (BOMA) for the next 10 years. In 2012, he launched his own successful advocacy and consultation firm, PTW Advisors, LLC that he continued until his death.
Ron was a man of many interests and talents. He was an avid golfer, an accomplished wood worker, cross word puzzle enthusiast, and culinary aficionado. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and family, biking with his brother Amon, and spending as much time as he could with his two grandchildren, Jillian and Jackson; attending almost every performance, game, and school event.
Ron and his wife Linda shared 48 wonderful years together and while they did not have time to complete the love story they were sharing, he gave a lifetime of memories and touched many through his love and actions.
