ZONING INSPECTOR (FULL-TIME)
Fauquier County’s Department of Community Development is seeking a qualified applicant for a full-time Zoning Inspector position in the Zoning and Development Services division. The position is responsible for enforcing provisions of the County’s Zoning Ordinance; initiating any actions necessary to correct deviations to include inspecting properties to determine existence of violations or compliance; preparing written notice of any violations found; providing timeframe and procedures for correction and performing follow-up site visits to verify compliance; researching permit and land records; reviewing the Zoning Ordinance to determine type and extent of zoning violations; making photographic and written records of conditions; communicating in writing and orally with violators and complainants on issues related to violations; entering a variety of information into computers, databases and generate various reports; assisting County staff in the coordination of legal action against violators; and attending court sessions as a witness in violation cases.
Strong interpersonal skills are essential, especially verbal communication. Experience in zoning enforcement or other law enforcement is strongly preferred. This position requires a HS/GED diploma. Valid Virginia Driver’s License also required.
Hiring range is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
