Position Summary
The Community Development Department is seeking an energetic, team-oriented individual to conduct entry to intermediate level inspections and enforcement of residential and commercial properties for compliance with applicable City of Manassas Codes for the use, appearance, and maintenance of property including the Zoning Ordinance and the Virginia Maintenance Code.
The hiring range for this position will be: $55,099.20 -$79,560.00, depending on qualifications.
This position will be filled as either Property Code Officer I or Property Code Officer II based on qualifications of applicant pool. Position open until filled.
Essential Job Functions
Typical duties include:
- Responding to citizen complaints and, within assigned area, identify areas of concern for additional proactive inspections and enforcement.
- Inspecting properties for potential code violations and issue corrective notices to property owners accordingly.
- Working with property owners on compliance with the City’s rules and regulations through educational outreach and to voluntarily abate violations without the need for legal action.
Minimum Required Qualifications
Property Code Officer I:
High school diploma or GED, supplemented by training and/or experience in general construction, site field work, property management, customer service or a related field. Must obtain certification as a Certified Zoning Official or Property Maintenance Inspector within eighteen (18) months of employment; may be required to possess additional certification(s) as deemed necessary by the City. Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver’s license.
Property Code Officer II:
High school diploma or GED, supplemented by three years of experience in zoning, property management, property maintenance code or law enforcement, building trade inspections, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess certification as either a Certified Zoning Official or Property Maintenance Inspector; must obtain and maintain certification as both a Certified Zoning Official and a Property Maintenance Inspector within eighteen (18) months of employment; may be required to possess additional certification(s) as deemed necessary by the City. Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver’s license.
