The City of Falls Church Building Safety Division is recruiting for a full-time development process specialist with strong customer service skills. The individual selected will process applications for building and related types of permits and review documents before sending them to the Building Safety department.
The individual selected for this position should be a self-motivated individual who has or will quickly obtain the necessary certifications to perform permit counter duties in a small (2.2 square mile), fast-growing, beautiful, diverse, well-educated, urban jurisdiction. We are asking a lot, but we have a lot to offer to a person who desires a comprehensive experience with a small government agency.
Responsibilities
1. Perform as a technical assistant to the Building Official. Assist in enforcing the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code permitting and administrative requirements.
2. Inform builders, developers, and other applicants of permit, grading plan, site plan, special exception, and other application processes related to land development in the city.
3. Attend board and pre-construction meetings as needed.
4. Screen incoming calls, e-mails, and visitors. Answer questions regarding regulations and procedures for obtaining permits.
5. Receive, receipt, and account for fees including permits. Prepare deposits.
6. Enter data into the computer system. Maintain status of permits pending.
7. Able to use and become familiar with programs such as Bluebeam Revu and Munis.
8. Perform related tasks as required.
9. Document inspections, plan reviews, and provides other documentation consistent with division policy and record keeping.
10. Assist in scheduling inspections.
11. Obtain and maintains pertinent State and ICC certifications and attend regular training.
12. Coordinate with other Departments and Divisions.
Qualifications
1. Graduation from high school including or supplemented by courses in general business or office technology.
2. Experience in customer service and data entry preferably in a permit-issuance, construction, and construction-code-oriented office setting.
3. Possess an ICC, or VDHCD Permit technician certification or the ability to obtain a permit technician certification within 18 months of being hired.
4. Ability to work with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
5. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
Hours
Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (with flexibility)
40 hours per week.
Salary & Benefits
Salary range $43,107 – 71,169 DOQ.
