ModeratorThey are very common in our City, due to it being a college town. We treat them as single family, even though there are probably individual leases for each bedroom. Hard to differentiate between a group of individuals that banded together to rent a whole house. I did it in college 40+ years ago and each one of us were on the lease. These days, they are just being put on individual leases. It seems to meet the definition of a dwelling unit in the VRC and VCC for R-5. R-3 lodging houses appear to be more transient in nature. One might try and say that they more resemble sleeping units and should be classified as R-2, but by definition, sleeping units that are in a dwelling unit are not sleeping units. Many times there are zoning ordinances which may prohibit more than a certain amount of unrelated individuals living together. Just my 2 cents.

ModeratorIt also used to be back in the CABO code. I think it started in the 1979 code and went up to at least 1995.

ModeratorWe use Crisis Track which I think is used by VA FEMA. It is supposed to format directly into FEMA’s damage assessment forms. I have had training on it once. It is loaded into my tablet with our GIS info. Our plan is to only use it for disasters at this point. We have other software for property maintenance.

ModeratorGood luck in your new position. Asking as many code folks in both yours and adjacent jurisdictions for help can be very informative. You will find that we all have lots to learn from each other and that you will never learn it all or remember everything. You are welcome to call me at any time at 540-432-7700.
Respectfully,
