How do other jurisdictions address residential out door fireplaces, pizza ovens etc. These would not be attached to the dwelling or near any combustibles. Permit required? Professional design if not perscriptive out of the VRC, pizza oven masonry barbeque with chimney?
These have become very popular with hardscape designs.
Thank you,

As these are not attached to the home they are not part of the home and not regulated by the VRC. I see these as free standing lanscaping features.
Interesting approach.
How far away from the building must they be to meet this designation? Could it be 2 inches from the building….just not touching?
I have not seen that definition in the exemptions…..free standing landscaping features.
What are accessory structures?
If there is a gas line then they should get a permit along with a gas riser.
While you will not find an exemption for “free standing landscape features” I think you will find that the VRC does not regulate BBQ grills or chimerera or statues or flower beds or any number of things that are constructed in a yard. However, if these things are connected to a regulated utility then permits and inspections of the regulated work would be required. The Code is very limited in scope regarding things not contained in the structure.
Thank you all for your input.
