I have a RDP that wants to install a gas line in an exit stairway. I said I have not seen this, but wasn’t sure if it was prohibited. The VGFC 404.3 Prohibited locations for gas piping, specifies not installed in ducted supply, return or exhaust, clothes chute, chimney or gas vent, dumbwaiter or elevator shaft. *Also, not from one townhouse into another… No mention of exit stair. Then VCC 1022.1 last sentence says, ” interior exit stairs shall not be used for any purpose other than a means of egress. The commentary says ” not to be used as storage to prevent egress travel… Then 1022.5 Penetrations into and openings through interior exit stair are prohibited except for: exit doors, equipment and required duct work necessary for independent ventilation, sprinkler piping, standpipes, electric raceways serving interior exit stair. Penetrations shall be protected. I’m reading that a gas line is prohibited. Is this an oversight in VFGC 404.3? Or …….
