Are there any smaller jurisdictions that have incentives for Environmental Friendly Construction? I don’t how to apply the minimum requirements of the USBC with incentives to build with Environmental Friendly Construction. This may apply only to tax type incentives, but I have been asked by my Director to reach out to other jurisdictions to see what type of incentives may already have in place.
I know there are programs such as LEED and Rehab Tax credits, but I wanted to ask if anyone else might know about Environmental Friendly Construction incentives. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks you in advance
John
I have not seen any incentives for environmentally friendly construction, but you did inquire about meeting the requirements of the USBC.
Per 106.3 of the USBC and specifically 106.3.2:
Compliance with the provisions of a nationally recognized performance code when approved as a modification shall be considered to constitute compliance with this code. All documents submitted as part of such consideration shall be retained in the permanent records of the local building department.
Have you considered the 2015 International Green Construction Code; it may be worth looking at.
Thanks Jamie,
I appreciate you taking the time to answer my question. Our jurisdiction is looking to grant some type of real estate tax break for any building that of the USBC. I believe by meeting the minimum requirements of the USBC or the 2015 International Green Construction Code you have Environmental Friendly Construction, but our Council wants to incentivize customers to exceed these requirements. We are trying to figure out what that is going to look like. Again thanks for your input and Happy Holidays
Look at green home choice in Arlington for some incentive ideas for renovations and new construction.
Alexandria has a solar tax credit.
