2006 Code change removed the reference to temperature in T301.2(1). It now states “Where there has been a history”. Can anyone offer any information as to why the reference was removed?
Hi Amy, I looked through my hard copy literature for the code change proposal that removed that language, but wasn’t able to locate it. I think it may have been contained in an erratum that I do not possess. I do know that what you saw in the 2003 IRC, “for areas where the average daily temperature in January is 25F (-4C) or less, or where there has been a history of local damage from the effects of ice damming” was the first time that it showed up in the codes (it wasn’t in the 2000 IRC), and that the temperature language alone was taken out during the next cycle.
It also used to be back in the CABO code. I think it started in the 1979 code and went up to at least 1995.
