My cook stove needs to be replaced and I hear conflicting reports as to wether or not I need a permit to do so. Do I need a permit to replace a propane gas cook stove in Virginia?
Here is your exceptions for replacement of equipment. Could be clearer couldn’t it.
108.2 Exemptions from application for permit.
10. Ordinary repairs that include the following:
10.4.Replacement of mechanical appliances provided such equipment is not fueled by gas or oil in Group R-2 where serving a single family dwelling and in Groups R-3, R-4 and R-5
so your answer is? I know there are more localities in Virginia then 1. What is everyone else requiring? Yes or No are the only two choices. The code requires a 50 gal gas water heater which requires 50000 btu to be used for sizing and the domestic cook stove requires 65000 btu. The Code also has sections specific to cooking appliances for clearances and pipe supply size. The gas water heater needs a permit does the cook stove?
in short yes and if the locality isnt inspecting, they should. need an inspection on the gas line( leaks, size), is the stove BTUs the same?, and is the anti-tip installed on the stove.
I would agree that all fuel fired appliances that are replaced require a permit and an inspection.
