What is your opinion.
Does a residential dwelling have to be connected to an electrical service provider (if available)?
Or, can some alternative method to provide electrical service be utilized?
Code references: E3601.2 Number of services. One- and two-family dwellings shall be supplied by only one service. (230.2)
From definitions: SERVICE. The conductors and equipment for delivering energy from the serving utility to the wiring system of the premises served.
To my understanding, a residential dwelling does not have to be connected to a electrical service provider.
Yes they can use an alternative method of electrical, that will meet the code, solar, wind mill, or there own water mill.
Or they can do without electrical.
R314.6 exception #1 Smoke alarms shall be permitted to be battery operated where installed in buildings without commercial power.
Also I believe are purpose, code section 102.1
