Hello,
I am preparing and studying for getting a Class A License in Virginia and have a question as far as which code book I should get.
I had ordered the 2012 Virginia Construction Code but received the 2012 Virginia Residential Code. This may have been a shipping error, or maybe I’m better off with this one? Or do I need the 2012 International Building Code?

I recommend you contact the State Contractor’s Licensing Board (DPOR) and the examination board for the correct books or references. For code enforcement persons, the IBC and IRC model codes are what the testing is based on. I would also recommend using the 2015 codes, the 2012 codes are nearly at the end of their grace period. Also depending on whether you are testing for your residential or commercial license will dictate which code you will be tested on (IBC vs. IRC).
