My wife and I are starting to look into finishing our basement. There are three slide open type windows that we would like to block in. There is an existing exterior door for walk up access to the basement. We are not planning to put in a bedroom downstairs.
Can the windows be removed and openings blocked in this situation?
All basements require an EERO, see code section below:
Basements, habitable attics, and every sleeping room designated
on the construction documents shall have not less than
one operable emergency escape and rescue opening (EERO).
I recommend you contact your local Building Department. We have a basement finishing guide as do many other Departments.
