City of Alexandria’s Department of Code Administration celebrates their 12th Annual Building Safety Month Kick-Off Event!

The City of Alexandria’s Department of Code Administration kicked off Building Safety Month with their 12th Annual Event featuring a Proclamation signing by Mayor Justin Wilson, followed up by remarks from City Manager Jim Parajon on the importance of the work Code Administration employees provide to the public. City Council Members also in attendance for support of BSM2024 were Vice Mayor Amy Jackson and Councilwoman Alyia Gaskins.
Gregg Fields, Director of Code Administration, reflected on the importance of our building code professionals here in the City, throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia and these United States, who work tirelessly to ensure the buildings we live, work, and play in are constructed and maintained, in a safe and efficient manner. Special appreciation in promoting educational partnerships was offered by Gregg Fields, specifically for Vincent “Bud” Griffin formerly with HILTI whom we lost this past fall. Gregg emphasized the importance of education for our fellow code professionals and recognized the value of our partnerships with fellow stakeholders. Floodproofing Inc. and HILTI provided 1-Hour training presentations for all in attendance. The event held on the historic “Market Square” featured a FREE lunch provided by Rocklands BBQ and a FREE Raffle featuring items donated by local businesses and sponsors.
This successful event featured representation from the International Code Council, WICED of Virginia, Virginia Plumbing and Mechanical Inspectors Association, fellow City Departments, construction management and workers from local jobsites, and a large showing of the public, totaling 230 plus people in attendance. We applaud all jurisdictions throughout Virginia, who recognize the importance of all the work you do every day behind the scenes! Thank you for your dedication to public safety!
