The Nominations Committee is accepting applications for the following VBCOA Board of Directors Officer positions: President, First Vice-President, Second Vice-President, and Sergeant at Arms.

This is an excellent opportunity for members to utilize their leadership skills to support the organization and contribute to the decisions that will shape its future direction.

VBCOA Application for Officer Form

Applications must be submitted and received by August 21, 2026, to be considered for an interview.  Interviews will be conducted on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, during the VBCOA Annual Conference to be held at Virginia Beach.

The Nominations Committee will provide their recommendations to the assembled membership for consideration during the Election of Officers at the Annual Membership Meeting Thursday, September 10th, 2026.

Congratulations on a successful Building Safety Month! Communities and chapters across the country generated nearly 400 proclamations throughout the month. If you haven’t shared your proclamation, there’s still time – just upload it on the website or send it to me. It was an honor to be a part of some of your special events spotlighting the efforts of the building safety community.

• ICC leaders make legislative and agency visits in Washington, DC
• Registration now open for 2026 ICC Annual Conference + Expo in Nashville
• Membership survey on permit fees and plan review open through June
• Preliminary vote results released for 2027 Code Development Cycle Group A and B

• Make plans to stay in Nashville an extra day…
  • Training will host a When Disaster Strikes Train the Trainerevent at our ABM on Wednesday, October 21 and Thursday, October 22. Space is limited, so let us know as soon as possible if you wish to receive an invitation. This event is essential for Chapters who have been granted licensing for the When Disaster Strikes – Evaluator materials. Two instructors from your Chapter need to attend a Train the Trainer session. Need more information on how to license the material for your Chapter? Contact me at kp*****@*****fe.org.
• ICC Technical Training Program
  • The TTP is designed to introduce high school and college students to construction codes. The program has been introducing young people to the International Residential Code© for years; now the courses include IRC Basics, IRC Essentials, IBC Basics and IBC Essentials. Chapters often provide an invaluable introduction to school instructors who could benefit from the TTP curriculum. Alex Kerr, Manager of Next Generation Training, is available to speak with your board or Chapter, either in person or online as his schedule allows. If you’re interested in having him speak to your group, contact him at am****@*****fe.org.

2026 VBCOA Annual Conference Scholarship Annoucement

Dear Valued VBCOA Member,

The Virginia Building and Code Officials Association (VBCOA) Annual Conference and September Board Meeting will be held September 9-11, 2026, in Virginia Beach at the Marriott Virginia Beach Oceanfront. VBCOA members in good standing are invited to apply for one of the Emory R. Rodgers’ Educational Scholarships to attend the 2026 VBCOA Annual Conference. The scholarship includes a complimentary conference registration and (2) night accommodations at the conference host hotel (if needed). Other associated conference costs remain the responsibility of the individual VBCOA scholarship recipient.

The VBCOA Conference includes the opportunity to earn CEU credits, attend the Board of Directors meeting, the Annual Business meeting, the Installation of Officers Annual Banquet, networking and a variety of excellent training options. Please note that scholarship recipients are expected to attend all Conference events and activities.

Those interested should complete the application no later than 5:00 p.m., Friday, May 15, 2026. VBCOA Annual Conference Scholarship Application

Scholarship recipients will be notified via email no later than Monday, June 8, 2026.
